On Friday 13th October 1972, a Uruguayan plane taking 45 passengers to Chile, many of whom were students and members of a rugby team, crashed into the Andes Mountains.
Twelve of the passengers died in the crash, those who survived had to struggle against terrible things such as the mountains, thirty degrees Celsius below cero at night and hunger.
They tried to cope with the scarcity of food, waiting to be rescued, but their hope vanished the moment they heard the search was no longer taking place.
Desperate, due to the lack of food and absolutely exhausted, they had to feed on their dead mates to keep on living. Fed up with the inhospitable weather, threats of avalanches, distressed because of their mates’ continuous deaths, and the despairing wait for the rescue, two rugby players decided to cross the immense range of mountains and get to Chile.
It was 22nd December 1972, after having been isolated for 72 days, sixteen guys have survived and defeated death in the Andes Mountains, the news reaches the world.
